Teeth Whitening Dangers - There Are Severe Risks Involved!

By

Have you ever thought about having your teeth whitened? It's very tempting to have it done, isn't it? It's a cheap, affordable enhancement that's going to give you a brighter smile within an hour or within weeks, depending on which method you use. You can buy whitening toothpastes or whitening mouthwashes to try and see if they'll give you some results. But you shouldn't expect too much from these products. These products are harmless, but the downside is that they will also not give you any noticeable results.

The Many Dangers Of Teeth Whitening

The problem with these products is that they do not contain any hydrogen peroxide, a well known chemical that's widely used to bleach teeth. In the hands of a responsible person, hydrogen peroxide can be used to achieve fantastic teeth whitening results in less than an hour. But hydrogen peroxide has a downside to its fabulous capability of returning pearly whites to those with yellow teeth. It's a very aggressive chemical that can seriously damage your teeth. This can lead to lots of problems after teeth whitening.

Hydrogen peroxide is used in both whitening kits that you can purchase over the counter and in the dentist's office. If you are going to bleach your own teeth at home with a whitening kit, then you will be applying the hydrogen based gel to your teeth for multiple hours per day. In order to keep the gel in place, you will be using either trays or strips. Both of them are fairly inconvenient, but with some whitening kits you are allowed to wear them at night so you won't have to bother wearing them by day. When you choose the do-it-yourself method, please be sure to read the instructions of your whitening kit with great attention.

The hydrogen peroxide gels that come with whitening kits are always of a fairly low concentration. If you were to use hydrogen peroxide concentrations that are way too high, then you would easily damage your teeth. Since these whitening kits have to be approved by the American Dental Association, you probably won't be able to find any whitening kits with dangerous concentrations. But you can still apply the gel to your teeth for too long. People are tempted to do this because they want extra impressive results. This is actually not too bright, because you are risking damaging your tooth enamel by leaving the bleaching gel on for too long. Once your enamel is damaged too much, it will never recover. Your teeth will be painful permanently. So I highly recommend you use whitening kits responsible in order to prevent this from happening to you.

Nice hub, but you still haven't told me is it better to get your teeth whitened in a dentist's chair or purchase your own do-it yourself kit. Should i be going to a cosmetic dentist or my own regular dentist? Thanks.

Depends on how much risk you want to take. Having a professional dentist perform the whitening decreases your risk, but costs more.

It's a very personal decision.
