Does Laser Hair Removal Work For Men?

By

Laser hair removal is a treatment where a laser is pointed at hair follicles underneath the dermis. The follicles that are targetted are the ones that produce the unwanted body hair. When the laser heats up this hair follicle, it becomes hot enough that it will eventually be destroyed. Sometimes it takes one pulse of the laser, sometimes it takes a few. Some laser pulses will be longer than others. The doctor will always try to clear away the unwanted hair follicles using a minimal amount of laser exposure.

This technique was introduced in the nineties to the public. It's been commercially available for almost 15 years now and more and more people are having it done. Laser hair removal surgery was, in the past, mostly undergone by women. For men, it was somewhat of a taboo. But times are changing, and more and more men are having it done these days.

Generally speaking, men have denser and thicker hair than women. Usually, they also have larger body areas to be treated. All of these factors drive up the cost and make the treatment a little harder. The best case scenario is where somebody has relatively thin hairs that are spread out over a not so large body area. These type of hairs are easy to spot and easy to zap. They will usually take only very short sessions and the number of sessions is drastically less than when a person with thicker, denser and coarser hair is treated.

Does Laser Hair Removal Work For Men?

Yes it does! The method of laser hair removal is becoming very popular for men these days. A lot of men want unwanted body hair removed on the neck, legs, chest, shoulders and back. The laser method is quickly becoming the default method of hair reduction. There are other hair removal methods available, but these are usually more costly, they consume more time, they are painful and they don't produce permanent results.

Laser hair removal treatment can take around an hour or maybe less for an entire back treatment. A laser can remove large amounts of hair with only one pulse of the laser. If you were to achieve the same results with electrolysis, you can easily end up taking a 100 times longer. The expense, the time and the pain make electrolysis a method that is quickly becoming obsolete.

Laser Hair Removal Benefits

Next to being able to remove hairs permanently, the laser can also help in diminishing razor bumps and ingrown hairs. An ingrown hair is when a hair follicle is producing a hair, but the hair remains beneath she skin. These razor bumps can become infected and spotted. These is usually very painful and can cause mild to extreme discomfort. There is usually inflammation and this can cause the ingrown hair to damage the surrounding tissue. It can turn into a wound that will leave scarring and or discolorations on your face.

Hair removal methods such as tweezing, waxing and threading can all cause this situation to become worse. Especially if they are applied on a frequent basis. But laser hair removal can target these problematic hair follicles and take them out for good.
