Baking Soda Teeth Whitening
No doubt you've heard people talking about teeth whitening with baking soda. It's a cheap home remedy for getting whiter teeth with almost no resources. If you want to try this at home, you will need two things.
1: Hydrogen peroxide. This is the substance that does the actual teeth whitening. The hydrogen peroxide you need can be bought in any drug store. You're looking for a 2% or 3% solution here. But certainly no higher than 3%, because then you risk damaging your teeth. When hydrogen peroxide enters your teeth's enamel, it chemically reacts with the colored molecules therein that are causing your teeth to look more yellow. When the stains are broken down, only colorless byproducts remain.
2: Baking soda. Baking soda is very abrasive stuff. It's pretty hard, so you can use it to give your teeth a good scrubbing. Your teeth are harder than the baking soda, so don't worry about doing damage. The baking soda will kill off some micro organisms and neutralize certain types of acid. You decrease the risk of developing mouth disease and you decrease plaque formation at the same time.
By mixing a few drops of hydrogen peroxide with a big pile of baking soda, you create a pasty mixture. This mixture can be used to brush your teeth the same way you'd normally do. After brushing with this mixture, rinse your mouth really well with water.
Brushing with the baking soda mixture slightly damages your enamel. To give your enamel the protection they need, brush your teeth again with a regular toothpaste that has lots of fluoride.
Keep doing this on a regular basis, and you will see your teeth getting whiter over the next few weeks!
