74Acai berries. They're the new super duper weight loss supplement that are going to make everybody thin, handsome and energetic!
Who hasn't heard of them these days? The acai berry extract pills are widely hyped as the best weight loss pills around!
Originally, the name of these berries is açaí, which is pronounced as aa-sigh-ee. An alternative spelling is aqai.
Most people simply write and pronounce it acai, though. And because I like to keep things simple, I will stick to this spelling as well!
The acai berry is heavily marketed as a dietary supplement these days. A weight loss pill, even.
You can get acai berries in the form of juice, smoothies, instant drink powders, whole fruit and tablets... all of which you can use in your weight loss diet.
The claims that are made by companies selling all these acai weight loss drugs are mostly unproven. The claims range from increased energy, improved sexual performance, detoxification and all that.
Some claim that the acai berry can reverse diabetes and chronic illnesses. Naturally, the acai berry also enlarges your penis!
These last claims are just plain false. They're obvious, unadulterated marketing BS of the highest order.

I have made clear upfront acai berry benefits remain unproven. You should be sceptical of anybody who is praising acai berries into the high heavens, especially if he's trying to sell it to you.
Nevertheless, you are reading this because you want to learn about the claimed benefits of the acai berry.
Therefore, I'm going to list them for you right here!
1. Weight Loss
Acai berry supplements will help you lose weight. According to the claims, this is mostly due to detoxification
2. Stronger Heart
Modern society causes a lot of stress because of a lack of exercise and poor diets, Stress can lead to heart disease. Acai berries supposedly contain nutrients that your heart uses, allowing it to function well.
3. Reduced Cholesterol
Acai berries are said to lower your cholesterol over time, making you healthier and extending your life.
4. Enhanced Sexual Performance
Need I explain this one?
5. Detofixifcation
The acai berry contains strong anti oxidants that eliminate harmful waste products in our bodies. This is said to make your immune system stronger.
6. Improved Blood Flow
The acai berry supposedly also improves your blood flow. This staves off al sorts of nasty conditions such as clotting, heart issues and balding.
7. Healthier Skin
The antioxidants in the acai berry can make your skin more elastic, shinier and healthier.
8. Better Concentration
The increased blood flow allows your brains to function better, giving you increased mental clarity.
9. Increased Energy
The acai berry is claimed to give you more energy. It will make you fall asleep easier and you will awake much more rested.

Acai Berries
Most of the acai berry related research done today focuses on a freeze-dried form of acai berries, known as opti-acai.
Per 100 grams acai extract, this powder contains:
- over 500 calories
- 52.2 g carbohydrates (of which 44 g fibers)
- 8.1 g proteins
- 32.5 g fat (most of which unsaturated, which is healthy)
- very little vitamin C
- 260 mg calcium
- 4.4 mg iron
- vitamin A
One research study of the acai berry, compared its antioxidant activity to that of other fruits of which the antioxidant activities were already known.
Commercially available acai berry juice was compared with red wine, tea, pomegranate juice and 6 other types of fruit juice.
The average antioxidant activity of acai berry juice was ranked:
- lower than red wine, pomegranate juice, blueberry juice, concord grape juice
- higher than tea, apple juice and orange juice
- comparable to black berry juice and cranberry juice
Based on this information, we might conclude that the acai berry is indeed healthy.
Whether or not it lives up to the grand claims that are made about it, is doubtful.

In conclusion... is the acai berry a fad to be tossed aside, or is it truly the miracle food the world is dying for?
I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
If you ask me, acai berries are healthy in the same way that raspberries, apples, bananas, avocados, blackberries, blueberries, cranberries, carrots and broccoli are healthy for you.
After all, what type of fruit, vegetable of weight loss miracle pill has ever solved the problem of being overweight?
None, ofcourse. It's all of them together, combined into one healthy diet that allow a person to eat in a balanced way.
Not one of Mother Nature's fruits or vegetables has been shown to contain all the nutrients our bodies need. A complete collection of nutrients has always come from multiple sources.
Like with any other supplement, I would not recommend anybody to rely on this and expect fantastic results over night.
What I would recommend anybody, is to give the acai berry a place in your weight loss diet.
After all, it contains good nutrients. But then again... so do many other fruits.

Excellent - some real common sense in regards to the ACAI - especially the weight loss claims - I've gotten a number of emails from people who tried the free ACAI weight loss ads only to continue to get the product each month after they said they no longer wanted the product - they saw no weight loss benefits.
